Paparoa a quaint little village only 90 minutes north of Auckland and was one of the major shipping and boat-building centres of the Kaipara in the days when sailing boats plied the Kaipara Harbour. Today everything is far more relaxed, with several cafes, northland best restaurant and a village green that’s ideal for picnics.
The village is now a service centre for locals, the farming community and tourists. There is a primary school, medical centre, hotel, specialty butchery, antique shop, clothing store and other small businesses.
Paparoa is a Maori name that means "long, flat rock". Papa: flat; roa: long.
